Introduction
- Making friends on the internet is a major perk, but leaving your friends behind to go to school every day can be a real drag. Learn how you can keep in touch, even during school hours, by bypassing the firewall so you can log into your Facebook account.
Step 1: The Facebook Application
- Facebook is well-known for its applications, and a popular one among students is the Facebook at School application. Students who have this application on their home computer can access links to open proxies that allow them to get onto Facebook. The only drawback to this method is that while you are at school, you will need to find someone else with the application and an open connection to feed you open proxies.
Step 2: Proxies
- There are hundreds of open proxies that you can use to access the internet anonymously, and that allow you to bypass firewall securities. The key to using proxies is to change them often, to keep the internet administrator from catching on and blocking them. Consider accessing through a different proxy every day. One set-back is that proxies tend be ad-heavy and contain a lot of spam. Be sure that you clear your cache after you've been using proxies.
Step 3: Remote Control PC
- You can access Facebook via another PC that you have set up for remote control. In order to do this, you will have to install special software like Crossloop or Remote Admin to the PC you wish to gain access from. Some schools may not allow software to be downloaded to the hard drive without special permissions from the administrator. Since you are already blocked by the admin, chances are, if this is a problem, you will not be able to use this method to access Facebook.
- One method that may bypass the system is using Google Translator. This page is used to translate foreign language pages on the internet into English, and is generally viewed as an educational resource.
- Type Google Translator into the browser.
- Type the Facebook url into the box.
- Choose another language and translate it.
- This will bring the Facebook page up.
- Log in as usual.
Step 5: Asking for Special Permission
- In some cases, you may be able to ask for special permission from the network administrators that will allow you to bypass the firewall, or at least lower the security enough to log into your Facebook account. You may be able to get access if you are researching a social networking project, or if the class you are in is a study period.
Conclusion
- Accessing social networking sites from school may not be easy. The level of network security will depend greatly on how well proxies and other work-around options do. You may be able to download the Facebook application from home, but you will need someone else's help from outside the school to feed you open proxy information. Getting past the firewall may be as easy as asking the network administrator for special permission.
